We support linking to the GenomeViewer using a generic mechanism via the base URL

http://www.nmpdr.org/linkin.cgi

The linkin.cgi script provides a short, unified mechanism for getting into our site that will remain compatible in each new version of the site. The following table shows the permissible parameters. Only one should be specified.

Entity type key identifier Example
Genome genome NCBI taxonomy ID 83331.1 http://www.nmpdr.org/linkin.cgi?genome=83333.1
protein encoding gene or other feature id FigId fig|83331.peg.123 http://www.nmpdr.org/linkin.cgi?id=fig|83333.1.peg.123
fig|83331.rna.1 http://www.nmpdr.org/linkin.cgi?id=fig|83333.1.rna.1
Standard Operating Procedure sop procedure ID 010 http://www.nmpdr.org/linkin.cgi?sop=010

FigIds contain the NCBI taxonomy ID. Thus, if the taxonomy ID changes, we need to update our internal data accordingly. To provide stable external identifiers, we keep a list of the IDs that have changed and display a warning message which informs the user of the change and provides a link to the new version of the data requested.
